The fans struck up a chorus of ‘Glenn Hoddle’s Blue and White Army’ at the start of the second half and continued, louder and louder, for the full 45 minutes.
Boss Glenn confirmed that the support lifted the players and helped them to a first Premiership win.
He stated: “I think I’ve said it before and Teddy said it before Southampton, there are times when a crowd can actually get the players going and the players respond off it.
“I must say they were absolutely first class and the atmosphere got me going on the bench, let alone what it did to the players.
“It raised me and gave me a boost and it certainly boosted the players. You could see it. Sometimes players can go into their shells but our players responded to it.
“It was wonderful to hear such vocal support and that is what we need.
“I’ve been outside the club for a long time since I played here and slowly but surely there has been a disjointment there.
“I feel there is a chance of coming back together as a big jigsaw where the supporters are with the club, with the team, with the manager and the management respond to them.
“When you have a club like that you can go places.”
Glenn added that the fans more than helped the team against Southampton.
“I think the supporters got us the points on Sunday. The players responded and, okay, they have to go out and perform but the crowd absolutely changed the atmosphere around from the first half.
“The proof is there — we got the goals, could have got more and if they continue that support, we’ll respond off it.
“There will be games when we score early and maybe they’ll want to support us for that but as the game progresses, rather than get anxious and get on top of the team, that is proof to them how they can change a game.”
Glenn Hoddle is looking for the fans to repeat Sunday’s magnificent vocal support against Torquay United tonight and for the rest of the season after insisting: “You got us the points against Southampton.”
