Our young Welsh stylist is targeting a place in the side for the trip to Upton Park after coming through Tuesday night’s reserve outing against Charlton with no ill-effects.
The FA Cup often tends to be football’s version of the show ‘Search For A Star’, where a previously unsung player captures the imagination, and Simon will be hoping that Cup luck shines on him and he can become our 2001 talisman — if selected!
"Sunday is a massive game and I’m sure everyone in the squad will be desperate to get on the pitch at some stage and I’m no different," said Simon.
"It would be nice to think I could have another impact on the FA Cup like I did against Stockport, that would be great. Dreams come true in the FA Cup so we’ll have to wait and see."
Simon enjoyed a good workout against Charlton as he continued to build up his strength after illness.
He added: "Everything is fine. It was a good game to come back into, very competitive, a lot of hard work and I’ve come through it okay.
"They had some senior professionals and to play against the likes of Mark Kinsella and John Robinson at any stage of your career is a great experience. You can try to learn little things off them. I’ve met John with the Welsh squad before and he’s a nice bloke as well. It was a good, competitive game to come back into."
With a game under his belt, Simon can now carry on pondering his FA Cup dreams — let’s hope they’re sweet ones.

Simon Davies has overcome the virus that laid him low and prevented him providing an encore to his two-goal FA Cup show against Stockport — now he hopes to be part of a team that makes West Ham feel nauseous.
