The midfielder looked sharp in a 45-minute stint in the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.
It was Simon's first appearance after recovering from an energy-draining virus that had laid him low since November.
"It's a start and I felt really good," beamed Simon afterwards at Selhurst Park. "A half was about right for me, I suppose the temptation was to play more but I know it's important to ease back in.
"The first thing I did was come inside from the right and knock a good cross field pass and then you are back into it. That makes all the hard work worthwhile straight away. It was a good test and I enjoyed it.
"I'm really excited. I'm buzzing to be honest. Even in training I've found that bit of spark and that's something I've not had for a while.
"It's been getting better and better and even out there I felt that little burst of pace back. I'm excited about that because that was the biggest thing missing from my game of late.
"It's the best I've felt for ages on a football field. I'm really happy and positive although I'm not going to get carried away because I've been in this position before with injuries but I'm excited, definitely."
The smile was back on Simon Davies' face after a successful return to action for the reserves at Palace last night.
