Shaq Coulthirst struck twice as our Under-18s produced a fine display to beat Bristol City 3-0 in the Premier Academy League on Saturday.
The striker opened the scoring five minutes before half-time and was there again five minutes into the second half to make it 2-0 at Spurs Lodge.
Lee Angol put the issue beyond doubt with the third goal after 55 minutes.
Coach Alex Inglethorpe was delighted with the display. "For me, that was the best performance so far this season," he said.
"The style of our play was very good, lots of good passing sequences, inventive play and goalmouth action.
"We opened the scoring after good build-up play, Laste Dombaxe got himself into a good area, his pass to Shaq Coulthirst was exquisite and the finish just as good as Shaq had to watch it over his shoulder before striking home.
"The second goal was at the start of the second half and another excellent finish from Shaq.
"This came after good work from Kenneth McEvoy, he found Shaq in the box and Shaq used a defender to shield the shot from the goalkeeper and curled it into the corner. It was great to see him score those goals.
"I've got to say the third goal was one of the best we've scored in the last couple of seasons.
"It all started with Jonathan Miles in goal and we worked it up the right-hand side with one-touch passing, ending up with a three-on-two in the box, everyone timed their pass right and Lee Angol finished well. There was a real flow to the move with Jonathan, Will Ekong, Kenneth, Jack Munns and Jack Barthram all involved before Lee scored.
"Overall, an excellent performance."
