Luck went against Duncan Tappy and our Tottenham Hotspur Racing Team in the fifth round of the Superleague Formula motor-racing championship in Italy at the weekend.
We were hit particularly hard in the second of the two races at the Vellelunga circuit when Duncan had managed to get up to second at one point and was running fifth late on when he was caught up in a crash and spun out.
Despite setting some good times during the free practices on Saturday, the qualifying session left our team in a difficult position to fight for a place on the podium in race one. Duncan did manage to take advantage of his rivals' mistakes to reach 11th place.
The reverse grid format left the Spurs car in a better position in race two, starting eighth. After a very complicated start, there was a huge incident involving three cars which immediately had the Safety Car out on track, helping Duncan get near the head of the race.
With the green flag and some teams going in for their mandatory pit stop, Tappy found himself in second place. However, unfortunately, just minutes before the end of the race and when sitting in fifth, an accident right in front of Duncan led to him spinning off the track and out of the race.
Beijing now leads the championship on 353 points, ahead of PSV Eindhoven (294), Liverpool FC (291), AC Milan (267), RSC Anderlecht (244), AS Roma (243), Galatasaray (236), FC Porto (218), Sevilla FC (217), Tottenham Hotspur (207), SC Corinthians (205), Al-Ain (200), Rangers (190), FC Basel (183), Flamengo (171), Borussia Dortmund (158), Olympiacos (142), Atletico (120).
The last race of the six-race series takes place at the Jerez Circuit in Spain on the weekend of November 22-23.
