Development coach Clive has travelled to the seven-a-side event - full title the HKFC Philips Lighting International Soccer 7s- with a young squad that includes the likes of Phil Ifil, Lee Barnard, Jamie O'Hara and Andy Barcham, all players that either made appearances for the first team or were involved in the squad.
Teams involved include Arsenal, Celtic, PSV Eindhoven, Aston Villa, Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa and Sheffield FC, not Wednesday or United, but the oldest football club in the world, formed in 1857, who celebrated promotion from the NCE Premier Division to the Unibond First Division last season in their 150th year!
"It's a fabulous event and I know it well through my cousin Paul, who has been involved in organised the Masters part of the tournament," said Clive.
"It's a little different as it's a seven-a-side tournament but it falls well at the end of the season and I'm sure it's a first trip to Hong Kong for a lot of the lads, it's mine as well and it's something we're all excited about.
"It's a very serious competition and the quality will be good. There are representatives from the Premiership, Celtic and PSV are there as well and the whole experience of travelling to Hong Kong and adapting to the conditions will be of benefit to the lads.
"We're also out to win it - don't worry about that! It's an end of season trip we'll be taking very seriously."
We have been drawn in Group B against PSV, Hong Kong side Kitchee and Sheffield FC and will play all three games this Saturday, May 26.
Teams play each other once in the group with games lasting seven minutes each way. The top two from each of the four groups then progress to the quarter-finals, with teams finishing in the bottom two of their groups going into a Plate competition.
Squad: Forecast, Archibald-Henville, Mills, Ifil, Daniels, O'Hara, Maghoma, Hutton, Barnard, Barcham.
Clive Allen is determined to close the final chapter of 2006-07 with success in the prestigious Hong Kong Soccer 7s.
