So let’s start there and, of course, if you are a German, it was a nightmare for everyone. Nobody could believe that we could lose this game 5-1.
I thought before that we were strong enough to gain the point and go to the World Cup in first position in the group. But if you lose 5-1, well, I can’t find the words.
Well done to England, they deserved it.
Anyway, Sunday was more important. We had played three games, two draws, one defeat and I know we’ve had a chance for more points, maybe four or five, but it was important to win that game at home.
It will give us a lot of confidence to know we can win. If we didn’t win it would have brought us down.
Then on Sunday we play Chelsea who we haven’t beaten in a lot of years, then Sunderland, Liverpool and Manchester United. That is a hard programme but I know we can win the hard games.
To win against Southampton was very important. With that win in the bag we can now play with a little more confidence. We are not nervous anymore. Perhaps if we now go a goal behind we can come back because we know we can score goals. The first win is always very important.
Christian Ziege didn’t play in Munich and that was the only good thing about it for him. But he was involved and he is a German with a heart like me and he was very disappointed.
It is a great compliment to Christian because he was very focused and waiting for that chance on Sunday. That is his class, to be ready to score from wherever, free-kicks or from the left side.
Of course I know him well from the Bundesliga, Middlesbrough, Liverpool and that is what he’s all about. It’s been a great start for him with a goal at Blackburn and now to score at home.
We have a very busy two weeks now. We have a day off on Monday to relax but we play Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday and with that win in the bag we can look forward to it.
I’m back again! I apologise if it’s been a while but, to be honest, I was lost for words after England beat Germany.
