'Ant and Doc' put in another faultless display in the 1-0 victory at the Lane as we climbed another place in the Premiership table.
Acting boss David pointed out that Liverpool's height was a real fear before kick-off, not least with Gus Poyet suspended, Fredi Kanoute on international duty and Ledley King a late withdrawal through injury.
"I looked at the height in the Liverpool team and it was daunting," he said. "We were missing three of our taller players and it was a massive headache worrying how we would pick up their giants.
"They won every header in midfield but we showed terrific character, attitude and determination and with a bit of spoiling we came out on top.
"Our central defenders, Doherty and Anthony Gardner, were fantastic and I told them that when they go to bed tonight they should think of each other.
"They are Nationwide players who have come in and done a terrific job because that is the way we are building, and I wish more managers would give players like that a chance."
David Pleat again reserved special praise for defensive duo Anthony Gardner and Gary Doherty after the win against Liverpool.
