Currently preparing the French national side for the challenge of defending their title at Euro 2004, Jacques took time out to give us his answers.
Which key factors attracted you to the position of Head Coach at Spurs?
JS: The prestige of the club, of course. It is a big club in England and I am looking forward to the sporting challenge. Also the confidence shown by the chairman and Frank Arnesen to put together such an ambitious project.
You will, no doubt, already be aware of many of the playing staff at the club. In your view do you feel there is a good potential within the squad?
JS: I haven't, naturally, had the chance to assess the whole squad in detail but there is evidence to the effect that it is a young squad with quality. It is, therefore, a solid base to work from with a good potential for progression.
Which players currently at the club do you know most about and look forward to working with?
JS: Obviously I will get to know all of them better when I arrive but, of course, I know the internationals like Robinson and King, also Keane - I am certain we will all work well together.
Are there areas of the team you feel need strengthening during the close season?
JS: I expect there will be both departures and arrivals. The midfield will certainly be a priority.
