The Saints have impressed in the Premier League this season and Tim picked out their pressing game high up the pitch – forwards putting pressure on defenders - as something we’ll have to cope with.
We go into the game in seventh with Southampton three points behind in ninth. They are five games without win in league action with tough recent fixtures against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Newcastle, but showed their form by coming from behind to draw with City and taking a point at St James’ Park last weekend.
“They’ve done well,” said Tim. “A new manager went in, he’s hit the floor running and he’s got some fantastic results this season.
“I think they will come at us, that’s how they play, on the front foot with a high pressing game. The players are aware of that, they will have to combat it and play around it.”
Southampton’s fowards have hit the headlines – Rickie Lambert, Adam Lalana, Jay Rodriguez and Osvaldo – with Lambert, Lallana and Rodriguez all selected in the last England squad and winning caps in the friendlies against Chile and Germany.
“They have quality all over the field, they don’t just rely on that front three,” added Tim. “They have 11 players out there who have done well over the season. As I said though, it must be all about us.”
