Brad Friedel has seen just about everything in his distinguished career – but he’ll experience a first within weeks of joining Spurs!
The goalkeeper snapped-up from Aston Villa this summer has been a professional for 17 years and represented the USA in three World Cups.
But next week he’ll travel to South Africa for the first time as we compete in the Vodacom Challenge.
We take on newly-crowned South African Premier League champions Orlando Pirates and world-renowned Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodacom Challenge.
We kick-off against Chiefs this Saturday, July 16 face Pirates on Tuesday week, July 19 and then take on the winners of next Thursday’s (July 21) Pirates/Chiefs clash in the final on Saturday week, July 23.
“Yes, it’s a first for me and I’m looking forward to the trip,” said Brad.
“Pre-season is all about getting fit and once you are fit, staying fit and getting your sharpness up.
“You don’t win any awards in pre-season, you need to get yourself ready for the opening game.”
Brad will get to know his new team-mates that much more in South Africa but said he’d quickly settled in during the first week of pre-season training at Spurs Lodge.
“The older you get, the easier it is to fit into different atmospheres,” he said.
“I’ve found this changing room very easy to come into, the players seem very genuine and they’ve made me very welcome.
“It’s a great group of lads, a great atmosphere and the camaraderie between the players is very good."
