Reflecting on what he described as “a proper cup tie” at Bramall Lane, the central midfielder was thrilled to see Christian Eriksen come up with yet another late decider as we secured a 3-2 aggregate victory over the Blades in our Capital One Cup semi-final.
The Danish international had earlier put us ahead on the night, with a Che Adams brace putting the home side right back into the tie before Christian latched onto Harry Kane’s pass and did what he’s done so many times this season by hitting the back of the net as the clock ticked down.
It means we’ll face Chelsea at Wembley on March 1, with Ryan admitting the players are in great spirits heading into Saturday’s return to Premier League action at West Bromwich Albion.
“We’re absolutely buzzing – we’ve gone into the game with a job to do and, although Sheffield United made it difficult for us in the second half, we’re delighted we pulled through in the end,” he said.
“It was always going to be a proper cup tie – the weather was terrible, but in the first half I thought we did really well, we quietened the game down.
“Their goals came out of nowhere to be fair, we felt like we were in control and then literally within two minutes it was 2-1 so we’re delighted that Harry and Christian put in a bit of quality at the end to get us through.
“Now that we know we’re going to Wembley it can only be good for us. Everyone’s excited to be in training and we’re all looking forward to Saturday now.
“It will be a tough game at The Hawthorns, but our away form has been good this season so hopefully we can keep that up.”
