Spurs U19s 1-0 Norwich City
Paul Rutherford's late penalty save ensured Pat Holland's mix and match Under-19s clinched a deserved victory on Saturday.
With late season injuries taking effect, the starting line-up included two Under-15 players, an Under-16 and two more Under-15s on the bench.
But the lads - some playing four years above their age group - held onto an excellent 1-0 win thanks to Mark Yeates' early goal and Rutherford's fine save from the spot just three minutes from time.
Pat takes up the story. "Three of the players, Chris Riley, Mark Wright and Claude Seanla, I'd obviously seen but never really worked with.
"Chris is an Under-15, Mark's Under-16 and Claude's an Under-15. We also had two Under-15s on the bench.
"It was one of those where you're thinking it shouldn't really be played but in fairness they acquitted themselves really well.
"I was especially pleased with the senior boys. They've had a long two weeks some of them, played a lot of games and to come in and put that effort in was excellent.
"We got off to a great start, Mark Yeates scored a terrific individual goal, beat a man and slotted it and that set us up for the game. We had the advantage of the wind in the first half, got through to half-time and then we got a little tired and had to hang on in there a bit.
"They then got a penalty with three minutes left and Paul Rutherford made the save.
"Prior to that though Yeatesy had hit the bar and we'd created a couple of good chances. Overall, an excellent day."
