The summer signing from Crystal Palace - who played a big part in Peace Cup win in South Korea during pre-season - suffered a foot fracture in the opening game of the campaign against Portsmouth at Fratton Park and was out of the first team picture until the the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane on December 12.
A further appearance came over the Christmas period at West Brom but the form of Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Lennon down the right flank has limited his opportunities to gain full match fitness since.
"Wayne Routledge is young, eager to play and Portsmouth wanted him," explained Martin Jol. We had to make a decision and it was a difficult one, Aaron and Jermaine can also play on the flank as well, so I thought it was a good thing for him to go on loan for the rest of the season.
"If he gets the opportunity to play there then it is okay with me."
Wayne Routledge has joined Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the season.
