Danny Rose took a positive first step towards his target of becoming a squad regular next season with a goal in our pre-season opener at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The young winger curled home from 20 yards in the second half as we ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at Dean Court. Jon Obika opened the scoring and Roman Pavlyuchenko struck twice.

Danny cemented his place in club history with a wonder volley as we beat Arsenal at the Lane last season.

His aim is now to prove that he's worth a place in the squad and his goal was a timely reminder for Harry Redknapp after he missed the final few games of last season with a knee injury.

"The physios gave me a strengthening programme for my knee throughout the summer and I've been working as much as I can in the off season," he said.

"I want to prove to the manager and the fans that I'm good enough to be part of his plans this season.

"You try and hit the ground running in pre-season. We all got 45 minutes at Bournemouth and I just wanted to impress the manager."

America is next for the lads as we face San Jose on Saturday and then take part in the Barclays New York Challenge with matches against New York Red Bulls on July 22 and Sporting Lisbon on July 25.

"Everyone is looking forward to America," added Danny. "We've got some good games out there and hopefully I'll take this form into the next game against San Jose."
