Robson: Defence was 'perfect'

Posted on 22 October 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Bobby Robson described our defensive display as 'perfect' after our 2-0 Premiership victory over his Newcastle United side on Sunday.

Starting with a back five and then switching to a four on Mauricio Taricco's injury, Christian Ziege, Chris Perry, Dean Richards and Ledley King, alongside the colossal Neil Sullivan in goal, were unmoved as the home side threw everything at us in the second half.

Robson, impressed with our all-round display, commented: "They have several strengths in their team and the back three players King, Perry and Richards did very well. We couldn't get through them.

"I didn't think we played that badly in the second half. At times we committed nine players in their half but they just soaked it all up.

"They didn't make any clangers. They looked comfortable and just worked across the goal, shifted around and threw themselves into blocks.

"It was a perfect defensive performance and it helped them win a difficult match."
