Robbo's Kewell duel

Posted on 13 August 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Paul Robinson faces a personal duel on Saturday against a player he knows will inform him ahead of the game that he is going to score!

The player in question is Liverpool wideman Harry Kewell, who came through the Leeds United ranks with Paul before heading off to Anfield before the start of last season. The two will renew acquaintances at the Lane for the big Premiership kick-off and Paul is in no doubt as to the threat that will have to be shackled.

"He is a great player, H," said the goalkeeper on the Australian international. "He came through with me at Leeds and is very strong, a great passer of the ball and a great finisher. He is going to be a threat and we'll have to watch him.

"He is a very determined boy and will want to do well this season. Harry will fancy scoring against me, without a doubt - he'll be telling me he's going to do it as well!"

Meanwhile, Paul reports that he has eased in nicely into life at the Lane and feels the players are ready for the off after a hectic pre-season schedule.

"It has been very good for me, I have settled in very quickly and have really enjoyed being part of it all. I can't wait for things to get underway.

"We've got a good squad, we haven't had too many good results in pre-season but there have been some good work-outs and hopefully the results will start coming when the season begins.

"I feel in good nick. I didn't have much of a break during the summer because of the championships and stuff, so I didn't really miss that much training. I came back and felt good and sharp.

"I think we are all ready now, players get a bit fed up of playing friendlies and want to get stuck into the proper games. The mindset is different when there is something at stake.

"It is nearly time now and the boys are looking forward to the season."

And there can be no better place to start than a game at the Lane against Liverpool...

"It is a great game to start with, you pick up three points and you can build a season on a result like that.

"They'll have had an interesting pre-season, they've got a new manager but have not got many new faces like we have. We'll gel quickly and get off to a great start."
