SATURDAY CERTAINLY DIDN'T feel like the first game of the season weather-wise! It was a difficult game against Portsmouth to start with but we made it easy for ourselves. We played reasonably well in the first half, stepped it up in the second and as soon as we got the second goal that was it.
I expected more of a battle and after the second goal we kept the ball and it was relatively easy for us. Portsmouth had a lot of new players out there and it could have gone against them, they've lost Yakubu and don't look like they've replaced him yet. It probably was a good time to play them.
It is nice to get three points in the bank - especially away from home. It's best to start banking them now as they all count in the end.
IT WAS ALWAYS going to be half a game for me in the Denmark-England game on Wednesday night. I felt fit and good, and played 45 minutes. I've missed enough England games and just to be back amongst the squad and get my national shirt back on was nice.
We played reasonably well in the first half and I did what I had to do. We looked like a half-decent team in the first half.
I was in the dressing room getting a shower when the goals started going in. We heard the roars of the crowd and by the time I got back to the bench we were 3-0 down.
Everyone was down after the game and the manager was far from happy. Although I didn't see all of the second half, the result was unacceptable and we've got to improve on it greatly. It was a competitive match, we were representing our country and lost in a bad way. It matters to everybody greatly and fortunately, this time, we've only got to wait a couple of weeks before trying to put it right. I would like to think there is a backlash waiting for Wales and Northern Ireland.
I AM LOOKING forward to our first home game of the season and hopefully we will kick off with a win in front of our fans. Middlesbrough are a top side, but we are looking strong at the moment and they won't fancy coming to us as much as we think it will be a difficult game to play them.
