England's number one had one of those moments all goalkeepers dread when Gary Neville's backpass skipped up off a divot over his attempted clearance and rolled into the empty net.

"They say football can smack you in the face at any moment and I think that goal underlined it," he said.

"Since then it's gone mad in the newspapers but I have to remain positive. I thought I played well on the night, made some good saves and I've felt confident in my recent performaces.

"On the England front, I have no doubts we will still qualify for the European Championships and I will now put everything into Spurs as we try to climb up the Premiership and progress in Europe. That is my focus."
