Robbo set for long reign

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton believes that, once Paul Robinson makes the first team breakthrough, Spurs could have the goalkeeping position sorted for the next ten years or more.

The England international signed on just before the end of the season before heading off on Euro 2004 duty with England and will be back to begin training with his new teammates later this month.

However, despite his feeling that the No.1 position will be secure for many years to come, Chris suspects the 24-year-old faces a big battle to win the jersey in the shorter term.

"Certainly with the quality of keeper he is - and we signed him because of that quality," said Chris of Paul's long-term prospects. "He is a young keeper and the fact he travelled with England says it all.

"He now has the difficult job of getting the No.1 position here as Kasey has done very well over the last couple of years. I'm sure Kasey will be as keen as ever to start as first choice next season."

The goalkeeping department is certainly looking strong for the forthcoming season, with Kasey and Paul backed up by new recruit Marton Fulop and promising youngster Robert Burch.

"First and foremost Paul has got to work hard and win his position here. Of course, when he does, we know we could potentially have our keeper for the next ten years or so," added Chris.

"It also gives us the chance to assess what we want to do with Robert Burch, with regards to a period of time where he can go out on loan. He is a young keeper we value and rate very highly and we have to make a decision on what best to do for his development."
