The goalkeeper was interviewed pitch side before the match against Blackburn but he could barely be heard over the strains of ‘England’s number one’ from all corners of the ground — not least the Park Lane end, where the fans have forged a special rapport with the big man.
“The noise coming from the Park Lane end when I was doing that interview was amazing,” reflected Paul at Spurs Lodge after treatment on his knee injury earlier this week.
“It was something special. I had my little girl with me and I almost welled up.
“You can’t find the words to explain the way that you feel when something like that happens.
“The fans have been absolutely brilliant for me this season and I can’t thank them enough for their support and the way they’ve treated me. Hopefully they’ll continue to do that and I’ll continue to give them the performances.”
Paul Robinson has admitted he was deeply touched by the reception of the fans on the final day of last season.
