Robbie Keane received an early tip off on Edgar Davids' desire to joined Spurs - from the man himself last summer.
The striker met up with the midfielder following the Republic of Ireland's friendly victory over Holland in Amsterdam and revealed that he was quizzed over life at Spurs.
"Last year I played against him for Ireland against Holland and I was speaking to him afterwards," recalled Robbie. "He was asking about Tottenham and said he would like to come one day.
"It is a tremendous signing. Over the last ten years or so he has been one of the best midfielders in Europe, if not the world.
"It is fantastic he is coming to play for us, he has won trophies nearly everywhere he's been and he will be a huge addition to the squad.
"His experience will be very important to the team and all the lads are very excited about it. He is someone we will respect very much and he is a Tottenham fan as well."
Robbie was quick to agree with the suggestion that the tenacious Davids is particularly well suited to the combative environment of the Premiership.
"He gets stuck in doesn't he? It will be good to have someone like him and I know for a fact he will do well in the Premiership as he has played for some of the best teams in the world.
"He is someone I'm very much looking forward to playing with."
