Irish international striker Robbie Keane, who scored 122 goals in 306 appearances for us over two spells between 2002 and 2011, has enjoyed a tremendous year with LA Galaxy and has been nominated for the ‘Best MLS Player of the Year’ award in the 2015 ESPYs – a series of prestigious gongs handed out by sports broadcaster ESPN.
The 34-year-old has already been named the 2014 MLS Most Valuable Player and took the 2014 MLS Cup Most Valuable Player honour while leading Galaxy to their fifth MLS Cup title. So far this season, he has netted three goals and provided four assists.
Four candidates have been nominated for the ‘Best MLS Player of the Year’ ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) in total, with Robbie being joined by Obafemi Martins of Seattle Sounders, Lee Nguyen of New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips.
As seen in the video above, Robbie is excited to see his former club heading Stateside to take on the MLS All-Stars on July 29 as we step up our preparations for the 2015-16 campaign.
