Clive Allen was delighted with contribution of Academy player Chris Riley as the reserves returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win over Derby County on Wednesday.
The Academy 1st Year lined up alongside Goran Bunjevcevic at the heart of our defence and put in an assured performance in what was a makeshift back four also featuring Spase Dilevski at right back with Emil Hallfredsson on the left.
"I think Chris acquitted himself very, very well," considered Clive. "It was good that he was alongside Goran and no doubt it will have helped him.
"You saw some of the qualities Chris possesses, he is very quick and he was up against a lively striker. He played it simply, effectively and he defended well.
"It was a good performance from in difficult circumstances, the back four was literally thrown together on Tuesday. Spase played right back for the first time for us and Emil was at left back. There were a a number of positional changes and I felt the lads did well."
