Reserves take main stage

Posted on 12 September 2000  - 12:00

English Barclays Premiership

Chris Hughton is hoping to capitalise on taking the main stage with his reserve team on Tuesday night.

The second string play their first home FA Premier Reserve League fixture against Chelsea at White Hart Lane in what is the first of a run of three matches and six in total in the main stadium.

Admission is free for fans who can take the chance to watch some of our stars of tomorrow and a familiar face or two.

Ian Walker, pictured right, will start in goal and will be joined by the likes of Simon Davies, Matthew Etherington, Gary Doherty, Dave McEwen and John Piercy.

Hughton enthused: "The club made a decision in the summer that out of our 12 home games we would play six at White Hart Lane and I'm absolutely delighted about it.

"Chelsea is the first of three games initially and it's a nice bonus for the lads who work hard week-in, week-out to be able to play in the main stadium.

"We've had two games so far, a disappointing performance and loss at Coventry and a draw at Wimbledon that wasn't such a bad result. We didn't concede a goal which was pleasing but I would have liked us to have gone on and won. It's always the same though whether it's first team, reserves or youths - you would always like to win your home games."

The strength and depth of Chelsea's squad suggests that they will bring a strong side. "I'm not quite sure how Chelsea will go," said Hughton. "They have a UEFA Cup tie on Thursday but I wouldn't be surprised if they have a few names playing whether that means part of a game or a full game. It's a nice surface and that should mean a good quality game."

Kick-off for the game at the Lane is 7pm. Remember - admission is free.
