Reserves result:<br>Spurs 3-0 Chelsea

Posted on 1 November 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Eddie Silva Sousa scored two goals in as many minutes as our reserves deservedly beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stevenage on Monday night.

Silva Sousa's double put us in charge in the first half of a game that we dominated from start to finish with Johnnie Jackson putting the issue beyond doubt minutes after the restart.

All three goals were headers and all three delivered on a plate by some superb wide play.

The only surprise was that in-form Lee Barnard didn't add to his recent tally, not that it was for want of trying - Chelsea keeper Yves Makabu denied the striker three times with his feet in the second half.

At the other end, Rob Burch only had to deal with shots from distance and the Blues rarely threatened at close quarters with Stephen Kelly in commanding form at centre-back.

We had controlled the first period in terms of possession without really creating ourselves but that all changed with the two-goal burst just shy of the half-hour.

The opener arrived after 28 minutes as Spase Dilevski fed Phil Ifil on the overlap and the full-back's cross was perfect for Silva Sousa to nod home.

The second followed on the half-hour and was a mirror image of the first as Mark Yeates whipped in the ball from the left and Silva Sousa's downward header nestled nicely in the top corner.

Yeates was getting more and more into the game and was the key figure at the start of the second half.

He had already tied the defence in knots to get in an early shot when he set up the third goal, receiving a 50-yard pass from Kelly, leaving Dean Smith chasing his tail before lifting the ball onto the grateful head of Jackson who buried from close range.

Barnard and Dean Marney went close and Yeates grazed the side-netting before the Barnard v Makabu show.

He almost capitalised on a move he started when he took a shot early that Makabu saved with his feet after 74 minutes.

Two minutes later and the striker worked a yard in the box only for Makabu's feet to deny him again and with a four minutes left, it was the same story, this time Barnard just a few yards out watched in despair as the keeper somehow flicked his effort over - again with his feet.

4mins: Hollands dragged first shot of game wide from 25 yards.

15mins: Barnard controlled massive Burch clearance, fed Dilevski, early cross beyond Silva Sousa but Yeates picked up ar post, back to Barnard, laid into path of Marney whose shot deflected just wide.

25mins: Hollands fierce drive from 30 yards but Burch right behind it.

28mins: GOAL. Great goal. Dilevski rolled ball in to overlapping full-back Ifil down right flank, magnificent cross, Silva Sousa on the end of it to head home from close range.
Spurs 1, Chelsea 0

29mins: Oliveira drive from 20 yards forced decent save from Burch diving low to his right.

30mins: GOAL. Carbon copy of first goal from opposite flank. This time Yeates provided cross from the left and Silva Sousa downward header into corner from six yards.
Spurs 2, Chelsea 0

34mins: Barnard onto ball down left, deep cross headed back by Silva Sousa to Marney who hit volley into ground and wide.

Half-time: Spurs 2, Chelsea 0

48mins: Yeates burst from half-way, tied two defenders in knots, switched back on right foot but could only prod at goal, Makabu comfortable save.

49mins: GOAL. Kelly switched play with 50-yard ball to Yeates, he controlled and turned his man again before lifting cross onto head of Jackson who made no mistake from six yards.
Spurs 3, Chelsea 0

51mins: Silva Sousa played in, right channel of box, early ball looking for Barnard at far post, striker got there but always stretching slightly and fired wide.

68mins: Marney intercepted pass out of Chelsea's defence, carried a few yards and curled inches wide.

70mins: Good work from Barnard to win long ball, played back to Yeates, faked to cross and almost caught out Makabu with shot to near post that grazed side-netting.

74mins: Great work again from Barnard, chasing down clearance and winning ball off defender, Yeates picked up and slid him in, took shot early from 20 yards but Makabu saved with feet.

76mins: Barnard half-chance again, tried to place it, Makabu saved with feet again.

85mins: Ifil cleared off the line from Tillen's free-kick.

86mins: Dilevski break down the left, Silva Sousa got a toe to the cross that fell to Barnard whose shot was somehow flicked over by Makabu's feet.
