Our young reserves stood up to the challenge against a strong Watford side as they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at Boreham Wood on Monday night.

Nine of the 14 players used by Clive Allen have represented our Academy this season - a complete contrast to the Hornets, whose starting XI had all played for the first team at some point this term and included the experience of Chris Powell and Malky Mackay.

Even coach Clive admitted to a few worries when Watford took a 1-0 lead after just six minutes but this squad is made of strong stuff - one defeat in the last 24 league games testimony to that - and it was no surprise when they hit back in quick time.

The goal started with Charlie Lee's fine pass over the top from inside his own half, both Kieran McKenna and Andy Barcham broke the offside trap and McKenna took charge, sliding the ball past the advancing Richard Lee.

Tomas Pekhart looked to have been brought down by keeper Lee for a cast-iron penalty after 25 minutes but appeals were waved away and Watford capitalised, Tamas Priskin lashing over from close range before winning a penalty - few complaints at that decision - that Adrian Mariappa tucked away just before the break.

Undetered, the lads had much the better of the second half. Watford were way off target with a couple of early efforts but all the positive play came from the men in white after that with the equaliser coming after 57 minutes.

The move went from back to front, starting with keeper Marton Fulop's throw to Jamie Davis on the right. He beat Chris Powell before releasing Pekhart, who spotted Barcham's burst into the box but slightly overhit his pass. Barcham picked the ball up wide in the box, cut inside Parkes and curled home a beauty into the top right corner, not unlike Gareth Barry's goal against the first team on Saturday.

McKenna tried his luck from distance and Phil Ifil zipped a shot just over from 30 yards but both defences remained intact and a point each was arguably right on the night.

5mins: First effort at goal, Lewis 25-yarder forced diving save from Lee to his right.

6mins: GOAL - WATFORD. McNamee cross from the right, ball ran loose, Spring capitalised to finish low past Fulop.
Watford 1, Spurs 0

7mins: CHANCE. Fine low cross from Daniels down the left, Barcham got in front of his man only to guide the ball over from eight yards.

13mins: Lee's shot with outside of right foot from 20 yards straight at Lee.

15mins: SAVE. Parkes pass down the right flank picked up by Priskin, he turned inside Lee before hitting fierce strike that Fulop did well to palm up into the air before catching.

16mins: Pekhart clean strike from 20 yards unfortunately straight at Lee.

17mins: GOAL - SPURS. Lee's pass over the top caught Watford's defence square, McKenna and Barcham both broke through, McKenna took charge and finished coolly, side-footing past Lee.
Watford 1, Spurs 1

20mins: Diagouraga effort from 20 yards looked good, deflected just wide for corner.

25mins: PENALTY? Pekhart chased down backpass, Lee tooka bad touch and Pekhart was on him, got a foot in, Lee appeared to bring him down, corner awarded.

37mins: MISS. McNamee's cross half-cleared by Lee to Blizzard, his shot feel at feet of Priskin, who lashed over from 10 yards.

44mins: PENALTY/GOAL WATFORD. Tamas Priskin felled in area by Phil Ifil - Adrian Mariappa slotted home from the spot to Fulop's left.

57mins: GOAL - SPURS. Move started with Fulop throwing out to Davis on the right, he beat Powell before Pekhart took over, speeding past Mackay in right channel, Pekhart spotted Barcham square, in clear, but overhit pass. Barcham picked up, cut inside Parkes and curled into top right corner from 16 yards.
Watford 2, Spurs 2

58mins: SUBS - SPURS. Hutchins for Davis; Mtandari for Hughton.

65mins: Quick thinking from McKenna as play broke down in midfield, spotted Lee off his line and went for lob from fully 40 yards, ball sailed just wide but keeper alert to it.

74mins: Ifil stepped out of defence, one-two with Barcham before drilling just over from 20 yards.

86mins: SUB - SPURS. Hutton for Pekhart.
