The game served as a useful fitness top-up for the returning Anthony Gardner, Alton Thelwell and Matthew Etherington and Colin reports that the 1-1 draw was pretty competitive.
"We played at Sixfields on Tuesday and it ended up being a very good exercise - both for us and them," said Colin.
"They were pleased with it - it gave new manager Terry Fenwick the chance to see his players. Obviously, because it was the first time they had played in front of him, they had a real go at the game.
"We did okay and, although we only scored near the end of the game through Les Ferdinand, there were a lot of pleasing things. It was a good workout and it really did make a difference playing at a main ground."
Colin Calderwood took a reserve side to Northampton on Tuesday for a match that marked Terry Fenwick's first game in charge of the Cobblers.
