Jacques Maghoma had the final word with the match-clinching goal a minute from time after Johnnie Jackson and Dean Marney put us in the driving seat at 2-0 up.
Dale Jones gave the Sky Blues hope by making it 2-1 after 74 minutes but the outcome was rarely in doubt.
Clive Allen and his squad can now look forward to a play-off final against the Northern section winners - either Manchester United or Aston Villa, with United favourites.
There were welcome returns from injury for Kieran McKenna and Charlie Lee with McKenna starting centrally in midfield alongside Marney and Jackson wide left. They were joined by Academy trio Simon Dawkins, Stuart Lewis and Chris Riley, also back from injury.
The lads controlled the game on a dry, bumpy surface and that dominance was only really threatened in a lively spell from the home side following Jones' goal.
Jackson - familiar in these parts following a loan spell at the then Highfield Road a couple of seasons ago - was involved in the key action in the first half.
He was just underneath Stuart Lewis' cross as early as the second minute, drove in a cross that Simon Dawkins almost capitalised on and then following a routine save from Rob Burch, fired us into the lead after 34 minutes. This time he shook off the attentions of full-back Jones before shooting low across Jonathan Tuffey into the far corner from a tight angle.
Dawkins found himself in a similar position minutes later but Tuffey had his angles right this time and palmed the effort to safety.
Coventry finally broke through our defensive line after 38 minutes and claimed for a penalty as Burch met Stringfellow with his feet but the referee awarded a corner.
Jackson and Marney were influential all night and it came as no surprise that they combined in the move of match for the second goal after 57 minutes. After a spell of possession, Jackson picked out Marney's run through central midfield and Marney controlled, powered past Turner and finished in style.
Coventry's best spell followed midway through the half and they pulled a goal back with 16 minutes left when Jones drove low past Burch from 16 yards.
However, Maghoma's bursts from midfield had caught the eye in the final quarter and the substitute was rewarded with the final goal of the league campaign in the last minute. He controlled Alex Smith's throw on his chest, swept past Lynch, drove into the area and curled low into the far corner - a fitting end to a title-winning campaign.
