FA Premier Reserve League South

We opened our FA Premier Reserve League campaign with a goalless draw against Fulham at Motspur Park this afternoon.

In a fairly tepid encounter, neither side created much in the way of clear-cut chances in very warm conditions at Fulham's training ground. It was certainly not an entertaining spectacle, but Development Coach Clive Allen will be able to take many positives from the solidity of a defence that saw to it that keeper Nicky Eyre was very much untroubled throughout the game.

It is a pity that the first game of the season was played out on a training ground as, while there was no lack of effort, the match lacked the spark that playing in a stadium seems to add.

As mentioned before, it was a game of few chances - only half ones - and our first of these came from Jamie O'Hara in the opening minutes when he scuffed his effort in front of goal after being found by Mark Yeates. The Irish playmaker then struck a superbly driven corner that just evaded the head of striker Michael Malcolm.

There was a blow just after the half an hour mark when Dean Marney was forced off with Achilles trouble and was replaced by Academy boy Chris Riley at right back. Eyre then stopped a 30 yard effort from Matthew Collins before O'Hara tried his luck from distance just before the break.

There was another speculative shot from O'Hara just after half-time and Yeates again attempted to unlock the Fulham rearguard with a free-kick that home keeper Ross Flitney saved at his near post.

Our best chance came on 64 minutes when O'Hara's cross from the right cleared the last man, but substitute Scott Thyer miscued his shot at the far post.

Fulham began to dictate the tempo as the game entered the final stages, but the central defensive partnership of skipper Paul O'Donoghue and Academy first year Leigh Mills stood firm to secure a first point of the season.

Line-ups: Fulham: Flitney, Rosenior, Bonnissell, Green, Rehman, McKinlay, McDermott, Collins, Noble, Pratley, Timlin. Subs: Davidson, Lawless, Ehui, Malik, Buari, Milson.

Spurs: Eyre, Marney (Riley, 31), McKie, McKenna, O'Donoghue, Mills, Barcham, O'Hara, Yeates, Malcolm (Thyer, 45), Ricketts. Subs: Forecast, Lewis, Daniels.
