FA Premier Reserve League South

Michael Carrick got his Spurs career off to a flying start as our reserves toppled West Ham 2-0 at Stevenage tonight.

The midfielder bagged the opening goal of what was a convincing victory over his former club just 17 minutes into his debut.

It was a lovely strike as well as he took a pass from Rohan Ricketts before drilling into the bottom corner from the edge of area.

Rodrigo Defendi also caught the eye with an assured display at the back alongside the untroubled Anthony Gardner, Phil Ifil buzzed forward at every opportunity and Lee Barnard looked his lively self up front after a six-week lay-off.

West Ham actually started this FA Premier Reserve League South encounter brightly but eventually had the outstanding James Walker to thank for keeping the score down.

Eddie Silva Sousa almost bagged his first Spurs goal after 10 minutes only to see Walker tip his effort wide.

That was the first of three top-drawer saves in the first half as he touched Ricketts' snapshot onto the inside of the post just seconds after Carrick opened the scoring and then topped the lot flicking Dean Marney's piledriver over at full stretch.

We continued to boss possession into the second half and Ricketts was unlucky to see the linesman's flag deny him a goal on 53 minutes.

Walker was soon back into the action as Carrick burst from midfield before sliding the ball into Barnard only for the keeper to dart out and block at the striker's feet.

He could do nothing about the second goal though as Ricketts whipped in the cross of the night from the left flank and Goran Bunjevcevic guided the deftest of headers into the far corner.
