The January recruit from Excelsior Rotterdam capped an impressive performance at Stevenage with a lovely goal to secure the points 10 minutes from time.
Taking a pass from the equally-impressive Phil Ifil, El Hamdaoui left defender Richard Stearman for dead on the edge of the area before finding the top corner with the outside of his right foot.
El Hamdaoui looked the part as did Ifil down the right flank and Kieran McKenna was outstanding in central midfield, breaking up play and rarely wasting the ball.
Rohan Ricketts came through 90 minutes on his return from injury and David Limbersky continued the good news with his first goal for the reserves.
It was arguably the most physical encounter of the reserve season with a few personal battles going on, a few late tackles and, almost inevitably, a red card when Peter Canaro was sent off late on for bringing down Limbersky.
Leicester managed to pull a goal back in the final minute but anything less than a home win would have been hard to take for coach Clive Allen.
The first half started at quite a pace with El Hamdaoui's shot deflected just wide and Defendi's close-range effort blocked accidently by Barnard six yards out.
Both sides broke at pace - Wright climbed well into Butcher's cross but headed wide after 13 minutes while Stearman did well to nip the ball off El Hamdaoui's toe after Barnard released Limbersky.
Wright headed just over under pressure from Eyre before we grabbed the lead on 37 minutes.
After some decent build-up play throughout, this goal came out of nothing as Ifil launched a free-kick towards Barnard, it cleared both him and his marker only for Limbersky, continuing his run for any flick on, to capitalise on a moment's hesitation between keeper Logan and Stearman and poke the ball home.
We took control at the start of the second half.
Logan saved at full length from Barnard, Hallfredsson curled over, Barnard drilled Defendi's slide rule pass a yard off target and the best move of the game on 57 minutes led to McKenna cutting the ball back for El Hamdaoui to volley just wide.
However, there was a warning sign at the other end after 65 minutes as Nicky Eyre produced a fine save one-on-one from Canaro before Ifil somehow backheeled O'Grady's follow up off the line.
Barnard went close twice more as the game started to develop more and more of an edge and Ricketts forced Logan to save with his feet after 78 minutes.
The Leicester keeper was helpless however two minutes later as El Hamdaoui finished superbly from Ifil's pass.
Logan had more work to do to keep out El Hamdaoui and Ricketts again and although O'Grady grabbed a goal back in the last minute, there was no doubting the points went to the right home.
