Reserve report:<br> Spurs 0, Saints 5

Posted on 10 January 2005  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Emil Hallfredsson and David Limbersky both played the full 90 minutes on their debuts for the reserves - but it was a night to forget against Southampton on Monday.

Hallfredsson played wide left and Limbersky wide right but found attacking opportunities at a premium against a strong Southampton outfit who bossed the game once they got in front.

On the positive side, Lee Barnard worked tirelessly up front despite it being somewhat of a lost cause and Kieran McKenna added a little bite in midfield following his arrival off the bench on the hour.

Most of the damage was done in the first half. Mark Yeates clipped the crossbar in the ninth minute but otherwise, Saints dominated the first 35 minutes and raced into a 3-0 lead.

Yahia, Oakley and Baird had already tried their luck by the time Mills headed Surman's corner wide from close range after 14 minutes. However, seconds later it was 1-0 with a carbon copy corner, taken by Baird from the opposite side and this time Mills made no mistake, powering his header home.

Blackstock might have done better after 20 minutes but made no mistake five minutes later to make it 2-0, running onto Surman's pass before shooting across Fulop into the far corner.

The lads appeared somewhat shellshocked and struggled to get their passing game going and it was little surprise when Saints went 3-0 up after 35 minutes, this time Baird got his toe to Tessem's cross before Fulop and Blackstock applied the finishing touch on the line.

Our best spell of possession of the half followed with Hallfredsson and Ifil whipping in crosses and Hallfredsson's shot dipping just wide after a deflection.

The second half was a scrappier affair and once Saints bagged their fourth and fifth goals in quick succession, they appeared happy to shut up shop.

The fourth goal was a belter although we lost possession in midfield before Tessem strode in from the right and belted into the top corner from 20 yards.

Five minutes later and it was five anda bizarre goal. Saints attacked down the right, the ball came inside, we half-cleared but it came back off Hallfredsson and fell kindly for Surman to drill into the corner.

Most efforts came in from distance after that as Bunjevcevic, Yeates and McKenna had a go before a late flurry from the visitors saw Fulop save well from Blackstock and McGoldrick fire over and clip the crossbar in injury time.
