Reserve report:<br> Arsenal 2-1 Spurs

Posted on 6 December 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our fine recent run in the Barclays Premier Reserve League came to an end against the old enemy at Barnet's Underhill Stadium on Monday night.

This was our first defeat since the loss against leaders Charlton back on October 11 and ended a run of seven matches unbeaten.

We looked more than capable of extending the run in the first half with Dean Marney and Johnnie Jackson bossing the midfield and Arsenal hardly troubling Calum Davenport on his first reserve outing.

Marney's surges forward from midfield were the highlights of a competitive first half although clear-cut chances were at a premium at both ends.

Jackson forced the save of the half from Chris Wright and failed to hit the target with a couple of headers, Eddie Silva Sousa was also wide with his head while Marney cracked one shot over and another straight at Wright.

At the other end, the skilful Arturo Lupoli, on target recently in the Carling Cup, somehow failed to hit the target with a header as early as the fourth minute but Arsenal didn't have another effort on goal until Anthony Stokes' dribbler 33 minutes later.

The second half followed a similar pattern with both sides looking to zip the ball around.

However, Lupoli's influence was growing and he was involved in the crucial opening goal after 59 minutes. It all came from our possession when Spase Dilevski flicked the ball behind the supporting Kieran McKenna, Arsenal played the ball quickly up to Lupoli who spun away from Davenport and slipped in Patrick Cregg who finished well.

Richards soon headed wide from Jackson's deep corner before making a key block at the other end but it was soon 2-0 and another poor goal defensively.

This time Stokes received the ball on the byline, wide right, skipped over a sliding tackle from Davenport and dribbling along the byline, somehow evaded McKie's challenge before slipping the ball past Fulop from the same tight angle.

We still chipped away, Yeates forced Wright to tip onto the crossbar and we grabbed a consolation goal in injury time as Jamie Slabber charged down Wright's clearance and the ball went straight in.
