Reserve reflections

Posted on 16 June 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen, reserve team coach last season, offers his thoughts and reflections on the performances of his major players and emerging talent in 2003-04...

Mark Hughes: 23 (2) appearances
Clive Allen: "Mark always gives everything. If you were looking for someone to lead by example on the field of play and in training, Mark's your man. His attitude was absolutely first class. He might have been limping or taken a knock but just grinds out his work. His work ethic is first class. Next season, from my point of view, he should look to move into senior football whether that's out on loan or pushing on from the reserves into the first team squad."

Phil Ifil: 10 (2) appearances
Clive Allen: "Phil made a rapid rise and everyone can see his ability. He pushed through from the Academy to the reserves and had involvement with the first team in training. He appeared able to cope with every level he was put into and the thing is with Phil, as long as he keeps improving allied to the ability he has, he can only get better. I honestly believe if he continues in the same way he will push for first team inclusion next season."

Johnnie Jackson: 15 (1) appearances, 5 goals
Clive Allen: "Jacko was a little ahead of one or two others in his peer group because he had that opportunity to go out on loan and reaped the benefits from that. Many thought his loan at Coventry might have seen him move away from the club but he used that to his advantage, came back and pushed himself into the first team. He used that loan system well and full credit to him for that."
