Clive Allen acknowledged that things just didn't click for his team after they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Stevenage on Monday evening.A fine goal on 38 minutes settled the contest at Broadhall Way despite an improved second half performance from our reserve side in the penultimate game of the Barclays Premiership Reserve League season.

"That is right and there were a number of reasons for it," said Clive after the encounter. "I was very disappointed with our first half performance, while we had a much better approach in the second. We had opportunities and when you don't take those you pay the price for a very disappointing first 45 minutes.

"You have to look at their age, their experience and where they are in their careers - sometimes I think we forget. There are blips, situations where we don't play as well as we can, but that again is all part of their development.

"They know and are aware of it, but are still working out how to change it when they find themselves in certain positions and how to affect a game in such times. We played better in the second half without really showing what we are capable of.

"We are developing well together and, although sometimes you hate to say it, we need time. They are getting there but will have evenings like here, which we have to learn from and bounce back. We've got our final game next week where we will be looking to put it right and we will work hard to finish the season well."
