Clive Allen was happy to wrap up the reserve league season with a win as Portsmouth were defeated by a single goal at Stevenage Borough on Monday evening.Despite it being a pretty one-sided encounter, the winning margin was narrow and Lee Barnard's strike after half an hour proved the difference. Clive's team finish fifth in the table with 30 points.

"I'm happy with the result and was pleased with the first half performance," reflected Clive after the victory at Broadhall Way. "The game was one in which we wanted to bounce back from the defeat last week and I thought we went about it in the right way - created chances and defensively we looked very solid.

"It was a pleasing result and I felt that the boys deserved to win. We would have got further goals if we had been more clinical, I felt in the first half we should have taken three more of the chances. Barney popped up with one and in the second half, even though they weren't so clear cut, there were still opportunities.

"I am disappointed we didn't score more goals, but we looked very solid and comfortable. Portsmouth didn't create too many chances at all and Ben Alnwick had very little to do."
