"It was as well as we've played all season," enthused coach Chris after two goals from Lee Barnard and one from Jamie Slabber saw the lads home at Stevenage Borough.
"The first half was such a good performance it was always going to be a case of whether or not we could sustain it," added Chris.
"We scored two goals and when you have the luxury of that lead you can perhaps go out and enjoy it a little more whereas at 1-0, they can always get straight back into the game. I didn't think we reached the same heights in the second half but I had no complaints.
"Ipswich have always had a decent reserve side and played very, very well at their place earlier in the season and I reminded the lads about that before the game. We knew we would have to play well to beat them and that's exactly what we did."
The visitors had their moments but Martjn Reuser, so dangerous at reserve level, didn't have his shooting boots on.
That couldn't be said for two-goal Barnard, who kept Ipswich keeper Shane Supple on his toes all night.
"Lee's made good progress, is a handful and his first goal was a fine goal," said Chris. "His contribution was excellent."
Chris Hughton couldn't contain his delight after our reserves beat Ipswich 3-0 in the FA Premier Reserve League last night.
