Andy Barcham's double and Jamie O'Hara's free-kick secured victory for our Spurs XI side over Crawley Town in an entertaining, competitive friendly on Tuesday night.

We bossed the first half and two goals in 10 minutes looked to have paved the way for a comfortable night's work but the home side gave as good as they got after the break and threatened to level late on. In that respect, it was an ideal test for a young Spurs XI side.

It was also the ideal platform for the return of Terry Dixon and the Academy prospect came through a planned half-hour workout without problems in his first action for a year.

By the time he trotted off we were 2-0 up with O'Hara needing no second invitation to curl home a free-kick from the edge of the area (15 minutes) and Barcham cleverly turning home Takura Mtandari's cross 10 minutes later.

It could have been more with Adel Taarabt threatening to run riot but home keeper Ashley Bayes made sure it stayed at 2-0 at the break.

The second half was a completely different story. With a few home truths no doubt ringing in their ears, Crawley were rejuvenated and stated their intentions early with Radek Cerny forced into fine saves from Vieira and Evans.

Thompson and Vieira tried their luck again before Cerny tipped Ujah's header onto the crossbar and it was no surprise when the Red Devils reduced the deficit after 72 minutes, Joseph-Dubois volleying home from 16 yards.

The same player poked a half-chance just wide with 10 minutes left and there was a sense of relief, friendly or not, when Barcham expertly converted his second goal for 3-1 with 82 minutes on the clock.

To their credit, Crawley hit back again, Joseph-Dubois tapped in when Bulman's skidder came back off Cerny for 3-2 and they had one last chance for a draw in added time but Pittman couldn't find the target from close range from Ujah's cross.
