Friendlies

Two goals in two minutes denied Jacques Santini a first win at the Lane against Serie A outfit Cagliari on Saturday.

It was the Head Coach's first home match of a busy pre-season and over 20,000 fans flocked to N17 to see new recruits Paul Robinson, Erik Edman, Pedro Mendes and Sean Davis in action.

They all played and were delighted to see us go 1-0 up via Fredi Kanoute - his third goal in four friendlies - but the Italian side turned a 1-0 deficit around to take the honours.

We had the better of the early exchanges but Robinson made the first save of note, turning away Esposito's thunderous free-kick after 31 minutes.

Our best effort of the first half came via Jamie Redknapp, a free-kick right on the whistle that keeper Katergiannakis did well to flick around the post at the last second.

The second half burst into life with three goals in six minutes. Kanoute opened the scoring with a fine finish after 55 minutes - Jackson's superb cross was inches from Davis' forehead only for Kanoute to guide a volley home from 10 yards.

Kanoute had another chance straight away as he latched onto Davis' clever flick but, under pressure, he had to take the chance early and poked wide.

Cagliari hit back in style minutes later. The equaliser came after 59 minutes when Doherty did well to block Suazo's effort but the ball wasn't cleared and Daniele Conti struck low into the corner.

Two minutes later and the winner. This time a break down the right, Robinson produced a fantastic save to deny Gobbis only for Albino to bury the rebound.
