Report: Spurs 0-0 Boro

English Barclays Premiership

Kasey Keller went from villain to hero in Sunday's goalless draw against Middlesbrough at the Lane.

The American goalkeeper held his hands up after a clanger allowed Leicester City to open the scoring last weekend.

But while he thanked his team-mates for digging him out of a hole and winning at the Walkers Stadium, the lads might just thank him this week after a couple of fine saves as the visitors got on top in the second half.

The best of the saves came from Boudewijn Zenden's stinging strike after 53 minutes and he was at full stretch 10 minutes later to tip over Gaizka Mendieta's free-kick.

We sparked into life late on and carved out a couple of chances for Stephane Dalmat and Helder Postiga, but neither made Mark Schwarzer in the visiting work hard for his money.

The first half threatened to catch fire without actually doing so.

Dalmat looked bright on the ball, Paul Konchesky was heavily involved and Gus Poyet made numerous breaks into the box without reward.

For their part, Boro always looked a danger on the break with the swift-footed Malcolm Christie and Szilard Nemeth looking for more support from the likes of Zenden and Mendieta.

The visitors made a bright start before Konchesky enjoyed a purple patch on the left-hand side. Two whipped crosses created havoc, Poyet inches away from the second, before a piledriver from 30 yards flashed a yard wide with Schwarzer at full stretch.

Gareth Southgate threw himself in the way of Darren Anderton's drive after 19 minutes but Boro might have done better on a couple of breaks, notably when Boateng flicked Zenden's low cross over. Nemeth forced the only save of note from Keller just before the whistle, the American flicking the Slovakian's 30-yarder over.

The second half was scrappier, we lost our rhythm and Keller was forced into action twice as Steve McLaren's men gained the territorial advantage.

The pick of the saves was a reaction stop to divert Zenden's first-time shot after 53 minutes while he sprung well to his left to tip Mendieta's free-kick over after 65.

Ledley King and Helder Postiga entered the fray mid-way through the second half but we continued to struggle to get any passing game going.

We got a glimpse of what we're capable of in the 76th minute when Konchesky fired a ball into Keane who dummied for Postiga, he laid it back for Dalmat to hit low and hard, unfortunately a yard wide.

McClaren swapped Christie and Nemeth for Juninho and Maccarone - Carr did well to cover and clear as the Brazilian threatened to get onto Mendieta's clever flick.

Konchesky, so involved early on, hobbled out of the action with seven minutes left, replaced by Rohan Ricketts.

And it was Ricketts who carved out the final chance, rolling the ball into Postiga in the left side of the area only but the striker didn't quite get hold of his shot and Schwarzer saved easily.
