Friendlies

Sergei Rebrov's first half strike made it three out of three in pre-season after a testing night on the South Coast.

There were fewer changes than we've seen so far as six players completed the full 90 minutes and only four substitutions were made.

Steffen Iversen made his first appearance in pre-season and Jamie Redknapp was back in the starting line-up after missing out at Colchester on Tuesday. He played 45 minutes.

As expected, we dominated possession but the home side carved out a few chances and Neil Sullivan was forced into action four times, a rarity in these early games.

We started brightly with Matty Etherington electric down the left flank.

The young winger picked the Cherries off three times in the first five minutes but Sergei Rebrov, twice, and Steffen Iversen couldn't quite make the necessary contact.

The home side recovered and looked lively themselves in a five-minute spell when they carved out three chances.

Neil Sullivan comfortably tipped James Hayter's header over after 13 minutes, Hayter then shot wide when well placed a minute later before Sullivan produced a superb fingertip save low down to his right to deny Carl Fletcher.

We took the lead shortly after. Milenko Acimovic spread the ball wide to Simon Davies, he steadied before crossing deep for Acimovic to head against the bar and Rebrov tapped home the rebound.

Chances were few and far between for the rest of the half although Sullivan had to be on his toes again to deflect a Hayter header into the air and Chris Perry nodded away from under the bar.

Oyvind Leonhardsen and Johnnie Jackson replaced Redknapp and the impressive Marney at half-time and we came out firing as both Jackson and Etherington were just off the mark inside five minutes. Jackson then looped Rebrov's cross just over.

Bournemouth substitute Amos Foyewa could have made a name for himself within minutes of coming on but, from a tight angle, flicked his chance wide of the target with Sullivan out to narrow.

The next 20 minutes was punctuated by the referee's whistle and a number of subtitutions and we had to wait for the 76th minute for the next piece of action as Rebrov's sublime reverse pass released Acimovic, who fired wide from a tight angle.

The same pair combined with 10 minutes left as Acimovic fed Rebrov who cut inside and shot low to the near corner only for substitute keeper Gareth Stewart to save low down.

Davies was a fraction away from the moment of pre-season so far a minute later as he dispossessed Caceres in midfield, spotted Stewart off his line and hit the inside of the post from 40 yards.

Elliott forced another fine save out of Sullivan with five minutes left but we finished on the ascendency as Acimovic's penalty appeal was waved away and Rebrov clipped wide from close range.
