Remembering 1960/1961

On Saturday we begin our celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of our magnificent Double success in 1960-61 and are delighted to welcome back to the Lane many of the stars and relatives of players from our triumphant side from half a century ago.

No fewer than 10 greats of Bill Nicholson's all-conquering team will be at our season-opener against Manchester City - Les Allen, Peter Baker, Terry Dyson, Mel Hopkins, Cliff Jones, Dave Mackay, Tony Marchi, Terry Medwin, Maurice Norman and Bobby Smith - together with relatives of the late Bill Nick, Danny Blanchflower and John White, and Ron Henry, who is too unwell to attend.

Those players combined to set English football alight 50 years ago, winning the league championship with such style and panache rarely seen in the game before then, and adding to that triumph the FA Cup when we beat Leicester City in the final at Wembley.

So we celebrate their achievement by welcoming them back to White Hart Lane, the scene of so many glorious performances during 1960-61, and look forward to seeing them back on the hallowed turf when they are presented to the crowd at half-time.
