Reid wary of backlash

Posted on 4 November 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Peter Reid’s Sunderland travel to the Lane on Saturday with a fine defensive record. The Black Cats are unbeaten in seven and haven’t leaked a goal in four, but they are expecting a torrid time in the capital.
Reid and veteran striker Niall Quinn spoke to Skysports.comTV about their uneasy feeling about Tottenham’s plight, and the potential backlash it may elicit for the Wearsiders visit.
Said Reid: “We have been keeping it tight and that is very pleasing. We have some great attractive footballers like Kevin Kilbane, but part of keeping it tight is getting Players like him to track back and defend.
“We know George is a top-class manager and we have the highest respect for him at the game. He’s been there, seen it and done it all.
“We are bracing ourselves a bit for the trip, because Tottenham have got quality all over the field and they are unbeaten in their games at home.
"The situation with the manager down there is that we have a few supporters, a hard core who are getting on his back. He has made a few hard decisions, including the sale of Ginola, but this game we are in, it is not easy to be a manager and make those decisions," he added.
Quinn reaffirms the caution of his manager. The Republic of Ireland international was schooled under the tutelage of Graham himself, and he too is wary.
He said: "I am familiar with George and his methods, and I know all they need is a big result, a thumping if you like, to set their season off. We have to just try and see that it doesn't happen to us.
"I admire what he has achieved, and what he taught me when I was a young man at Highbury," he added.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
