Funded by the Premier League, the programme has recruited over 100 people who have provided the local community with over 7,750 hours of voluntary service.
Grant Cornwell MBE, Chief Executive Officer of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “Volunteers are fundamental to the sustainability and development of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, and achieving the Investing In Volunteers Quality Mark demonstrates our commitment to up-skilling and developing our volunteers. The Foundation would not be able to deliver life changing projects within our local communities without the support and input from our volunteers.”
Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations that involve volunteers. Investing in Volunteers aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience for all individuals and for organisations to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by volunteers.
The Foundation was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with volunteers.
Heena Shah has been volunteering with the Foundation since March in an administration and office support role. She said: “Being part of the volunteering programme has been a great experience. I’ve really enjoyed taking part in an organised programme and detailed approach to volunteering. It’s good to have regular support and development opportunities when volunteering.”
Nick Harrison has been volunteering since 2011 and has given over 200 hours on a range of programmes. Through his dedication and enthusiastic approach, Nick has recently gained employment with the Foundation.
He added: “Being part of the volunteering programme has been a great experience. I volunteer on a weekly basis across five different programmes, three departments and three different Boroughs working with many Foundation staff. It’s great having that regular support and contact.”
The Investing in Volunteers Quality Mark is the only standard that focuses on volunteers. It is based on five areas of volunteer management; planning for volunteer involvement, recruiting volunteers, selecting and matching volunteers, and supporting and retaining volunteers. The Tottenham Hotspur volunteer programme provides the Foundation with 20 trained volunteers a year to support the delivery and development of all projects. They are involved in regular roles, allowing them to build a rapport and develop relationships with members of staff and participant groups. Since 2009, nine volunteers have progressed onto employment with the Foundation, as well as numerous others with external organisations.
