Ready for a scrap

Posted on 15 January 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle is ready for a scrap as Coventry City try to add us to this season's list of FA Cup giant-killings tomorrow night.

Sunderland, Derby County and most notably Leeds United have already been dumped out of the competition by Nationwide League sides.

The boss is determined not to go the same way especially with the incentive of a home tie against Bolton or Stockport County in the fourth round.

"This will be a difficult task," stressed Glenn. "If we think we can go there and just pass the ball, that is not the third round of the FA Cup, it never happens.

"You have to dig in, battle, play a shape that will possibly get you through the first 30, 35 minutes, weather the storm and possibly, as the game stretches, you might get your opportunities.

"League form goes out of the window. It's their cup final, their chance to say 'we should still be in the Premiership and we're going to prove it' by knocking us out.

"We've seen it happen, West Brom at Sunderland for instance, and this is very similar.

"We have to be professional and come the end of the game we have to make sure we're still in it.

"We have the incentive of a home tie in the next round and it couldn't be better than that.

"We've got the Worthington Cuop coming up as well but we have to pretend we've been dumped out of that a long time ago and if that was the case, this would be a massive, massive game. We'll prepare no differently and I'll be stressing that to the players."
