Our Senior Professional Phase Coach summed up the 5-0 reverse as “one of those things”, adding that we can learn from the result going into the Under-21s’ next match against Leicester City in a fortnight’s time.
Three goals in the first half and two in the second did the damage, although we squandered a couple of chances to draw level when we were 1-0 down.
“Sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth,” said a philosophical Chris at Langtree Park after Monday night’s game.
“We saw some really poor individual mistakes but having said that you’ve got to give credit to Liverpool, they really played well.
“We’ve got to learn from it. We’ve got a young team but there were a lot of individual mistakes that people will be sorry for when they look back at the analysis and the video, and hopefully they can come back strong next time.”
Chris also praised the efforts of Nathan Oduwa, Joshua Onomah and Connor Ogilvie – three lads from our unbeaten Under-18s side who came off the bench in the second half, and proved to be a breath of fresh air.
“They were fantastic,” added Chris. “They were in fact among the best players so I think a few of the development boys will be looking over their shoulders.”
