Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Happy New Year to you all and welcome to Blackburn Rovers as our busy schedule of holiday games continues.
Unfortunately, due to our advanced programme deadlines, I am unable to make any reference to our games at Southampton and Aston Villa but there is no doubt that we need to quickly rediscover the winning habit here at the Lane after our disappointment against Ipswich.
I had warned in these notes before the match that George Burley’s side could not be taken lightly and that they had the quality to shortly turn the corner in their battle to climb off the foot of the table. So we certainly did not take anything for granted but we simply did not perform as well as we can, particularly in the first half.
Ironically we scored at the wrong time. It seems strange to say that but had we gone in one down at the interval we would probably have gone on to win the game.
We scored when we were not dictating the game and that made people think — players and spectators alike — that it was going to happen rather than us making it happen.
But we certainly got it together after the break, hitting post and bar and missing chances from a yard out.
However if you are going to put in the poorest first half that we have produced all season, then you will leave yourself with a mountain to climb. That wasn’t so much the case against Ipswich because, even when reduced to 10 men, we deserved victory on our second-half showing alone. But we didn’t help ourselves.
Teddy’s dismissal was obviously the defining moment in the game, coming as it did so early in the second half and robbing us of such an influential player.
No matter how it looked, I know that Teddy is not the type to throw a punch. It’s just not in his nature. However, I will leave it there as the referee has promised to take another look at the incident on video and we must wait to see what that produces.
Overall, that defeat was a real jolt but we have to take the positives from it as it showed us that there is still a lot of work to be done. We just didn’t get to grips with the game, we were not putting the passes together nor creating the angles as we have been all season.
We made better options for ourselves in the second-half, passing the ball better and opening them up. That’s what we’ve got to build on. Forget the first half, remember the second and stay confident in what we are about — while, at the same time, being more ruthless in our finishing.

In the end it was painful to lose because we looked the side most likely to go on to win. But now we have to respond positively again and we must do so today while, at the same time, making up for our shortcomings when we played Blackburn at Ewood Park back in August.

After our heroics at Everton just days before, we lacked something in our make-up at Blackburn and produced a below-par performance. We passed well and were creative enough but gave away two avoidable goals.

Now we have got to show that we’ve come a long way since then and games like this afternoon will again test that advancement.

Once again, your response when our lads gave everything in the second-half against Ipswich, was immense and it was such a shame that we could not provide you with that early Christmas present. But we are determined to start the New Year on the right footing today.

May we share a great 2002.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
