Today's game gives us the chance to show what we can do against one of the best sides in the country and in front of a nationwide audience.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
No-one can doubt that our home form in the league is excellent this season and I was obviously delighted that we extended our unbeaten Premiership run in our last game here against Sunderland.
We will continue to attack sides at the Lane because that is our strength and the marvellous support that you gave us throughout that match made all the difference. I said afterwards that our supporters deserved credit for those sterling efforts and I am happy to repeat that sentiment now.
We'll need you just as much - if not more - this afternoon.
I've used the maxim 'together we are strong' in the past and that's how I want us to proceed because, despite our injuries, we are making progress although both you and I agree that we need more quality players before we can perform consistently as we all want.
Unfortunately, our good home form is not mirrored on our travels and I cannot understand that. We are not getting hammered anywhere so the gap is not that great but we seem to lack confidence away from home.
One of our strengths has always been our refusal to give in and opposition teams know that we will always battle to the end. But, at the moment, we seem to lose belief once we go behind and that fragility is being addressed, as it must be. There is simply no reason for it.
Liverpool will certainly provide us with a stern test because they are a team in form, both individually and collectively. But we can take inspiration from the manner in which we beat them here last season after we had also defeated Manchester United and Arsenal.
Unfortunately we proved not to be consistent enough to build on those successes - and consistency is always the key word. We're certainly having a good run here and we'll be going out for each and every game, gritting our teeth and determined to keep that run going.
We have to make White Hart Lane a ground where we dictate and dominate and where our visitors are kept on the back foot and chasing the game. Then, once we have that foundation, we have to transfer that form to away games and start picking up points there.
We're battling here and we'll do so again this afternoon against a cosmopolitan Liverpool side that is emerging and improving with every game. They also provide an example in that they illustrate the strength in depth that we must emulate if we are to succeed.
Our injured players Sol Campbell, Steffen Iversen, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Steffen Freund and Mauricio Taricco are all making good progress while Chris Armstrong and Willem Korsten will improve with games following their lay-offs.
All credit to the players who are battling on - particularly the youngsters on the bench - but we are down to the bare bones in terms of experience and need some of our missing players back before too long as we face some difficult games ahead.
Get behind the players and let's go for it!
