Derby County are renowned for strength at reserve team level, won the FA Premier Reserve League title last season and are currently third in the Southern Division.
Boss Hughton said: “Derby are a good side. They won this league last year and they are in a good position already this season.
“They have a lot of good young players and the senior players who come into the side have done well for them.
“It’s a good quality game being played on a very good surface. I remember last year we didn’t do too well there even though we had a very good side out on paper.”
Last season was a 3-1 reverse but Hughton’s men go into this game full of confidence after hitting Leicester City for six at the Lane a fortnight ago.
With Willem Korsten, who hit four goals that night and Chris Armstrong, who hit the winner against Sunderland in the Premiership on Saturday, both in action we shouldn’t be short of firepower again.
“We’d been threatening that Leicester result for a while,” added Hughton. “We’d had a lot of chances in games and not really put away the amount of goals we should have done.
“It’s nice for the lads. The reaction of everyone has been very good since the Charlton game. We’ve had three games, won them all and that’s all you can ask.”
